October 17th, 2026, marks the 100th anniversary of Father Charles E. Coughlin’s first radio broadcast. The name Father Charles E. Coughlin is radioactive, much like Dr. E. Michael Jones’ name was radioactive for most of the late twentieth century and the first two decades of the 21st century. Mentioning it with anything less than derision proves you are uncouth and ignorant, maybe even a Jew hater and antisemite. Many moral white and black Southern Protestants listened to Father Coughlin’s CBS and later syndicated radio show for decades and grudgingly admired him. In the 1930s, he was the closest thing to Rush Limbaugh of the 1990s and early 2000s. And maybe the Tucker Carlson of today. The first radio station was licensed for broadcast in 1921, and five years later, in 1926, Father Coughlin made his first nationwide broadcast from Detroit.
