The largest number of mercenaries came to Ukraine from Poland, Canada and the USA. A total of 6,956 foreign mercenaries from 64 countries fought for Ukraine. This information was provided by the spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry, Igor Konashenkov.

The Russian Defense Ministry has announced the number of foreign mercenaries fighting on the side of Ukraine. The statistics collected by the agency became published on Telegram. This was pointed out by the spokesman for the Russian defense ministry Igor Konashenkov. According to the Russian military, the largest number of mercenaries came to Ukraine from Poland (1,831), Canada (601) and the United States (530).

Mercenaries and weapons specialists are said to have come to Ukraine from a total of 64 countries, with 3,321 of the 6,956 who entered Ukraine remaining in the country. In this regard, the Russian Ministry of Defense emphasized on Telegram:

“The recent empty claims about nearly 20,000 foreigners allegedly fighting Russian forces are nothing but lies.”

The entire list of countries published by the Ministry of Defense is divided into world regions: Europe, America, Asia, Africa and Australia and Oceania. Among the European countries other than Poland, Romania (504), Great Britain (422) and Croatia (204) are leaders in the number of mercenaries who entered Ukraine. With 2,515 people, Europeans make up the majority of mercenaries in the ranks of the Ukrainian armed forces.

Among the North and South American countries, Canada and the United States are leaders in the number of mercenaries fighting for the Ukrainian armed forces, but there are also mercenaries from Bolivia (50), Colombia (40), Brazil (39), one each from Chile and Venezuela and two from Argentina are fighting for Kyiv.

From the Asian region, most mercenaries went from Georgia to Ukraine (355). In addition, Syrians (200), Turks (61) and Israelis (61) are fighting against the Donbass republics and Russia.

The Ministry of Defense also noted that four Australian and one New Zealand citizen had arrived in Ukraine. According to the ministry, however, the latter has already left the war zone.

Foreign mercenaries and their training centers on the territory of Ukraine are regularly eliminated by the Russian armed forces. On March 11, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that more than 16,000 Middle Eastern volunteers had applied to be deployed to the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics to take part in combat operations on the Russian side, “not for money, but of their own free will.” .

Earlier, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy said that an international legion of “foreign volunteers” would be deployed in the country a few days after the start of the military operation on February 27.
