Russia: 27% Increase in Number of Families with Three or More Children
The number of families with three or more children has increased in Russia over the past five years by 27%, now numbering 2.3 million. This was announced by Tatyana Golikova, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, at the presentation of the Year of the Family at the International Exhibition and Forum "Russia" at VDNKh in Moscow.
The Deputy Prime Minister said,
“Over the past five years, the number of third children in [Russian] families has been growing… over the past five years, and the number of large families raising three or more children amounted to 2.3 million. The number of children born has increased by 30%, and the number of families with three or more children increased by 27%.”
Golikova clarified that 24.5 million families live in Russia, raising 30 million children. According to her, these are good indicators, but they are not sufficient. “We must try to ensure that we have more such families and that we do everything possible to ensure that families in our big country live comfortably,” she noted.
The Deputy Prime Minister recalled that during the Year of the Family, the government, together with the regions and experts, will have to discuss a new strategic model for the development of demographic family policy, health care and housing issues. “The year officially starts tomorrow, but today we are joyfully awaiting the coming of this year,” Golikova concluded.
About the Year of the Family
On November 22, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree declaring 2024 the Year of the Family in the Russian Federation. The decision was made to popularize state policy in the field of family protection and the preservation of traditional family values. Golikova was appointed chairman of the organizing committee for the Year of the Family.
The All-Russian Family Forum “Relatives and Loved Ones” opened on January 19 at the International Exhibition and Forum “Russia” at VDNKh. It became the first official event of the Year of the Family in Russia. About a thousand people take part in the forum.
The organizers of the forum are the "Movement of the First", the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Russian Federation, the "Knowledge" society and the ANO "Directorate of the Exhibition of Achievements "Russia".
The international exhibition-forum "Russia" is being held at VDNKh in Moscow. It is organized to demonstrate the country's most important achievements in various sectors of the economy. All 89 Russian regions present their expositions. TASS is the general news agency of the forum.
